On Saturday, August 24th, the Carmel Guitar Society hosted a spectacular concert featuring five talented young ladies. The event reached maximum capacity, and the audience appeared to thoroughly enjoy the evening.
The newly formed Cypress Strings Guitar Quartet opened the concert with a delightful short set of familiar pieces, including the American folk song "Shenandoah" and Pachelbel's Canon in D major. Although this concert marked a significant milestone for the local quartet, these young musicians have been honing their craft together since 2019 under the guidance of local classical guitar teacher Anthony DeMers. The future looks incredibly bright for these girls; it's only a matter of time before they’ll be headlining their own full concert performances. Their synergy and commitment to their art are evident, promising many more captivating performances to come.
Following the quartet, Emilia Díaz-Delgado delivered an incredible performance, showcasing a level of skill akin to that of an Olympic athlete. Emilia performed a wide range of pieces, from Giuliani and Bach to works by local composer and world-renowned luthier Kenny Hill. Her technical prowess and musical sensitivity were truly astonishing, especially considering that Emilia is not yet old enough to obtain a driver's license in California. The depth of her expression and her command over the instrument left the audience in awe, making it clear that she is a rising star in the classical guitar world.
