Board Volunteers Attend San Jose Event | South Bay Guitar Society 20th Annual Jerry Snyder GuitarFest

Writer: E GlennE Glenn

March 1st and 2nd in San Jose, California, was a memorable event put on by friends at South Bay Guitar Society. Volunteer board members from Carmel Guitar Society enjoyed a rich program of concerts, masterclasses, luthier exhibitors, and more!

Luthier, composer, performer, and member at-large Kenny Hill, was on site with a display of classical guitar models. Several event attendees enjoyed close and personal time with the world-renowned guitar maker. Kenny was also a part of the performances by Cabrillo Guitar Ensemble, Guitar Ensemble Monterey, and Josh Freidman's led South Bay Guitar Society Ensemble. Kenny ended the SBGS set with a solo performance of his Stolen Moments Suite. The sheet music for this piece is available from Productions d'OZ.

Board President Anthony DeMers was also onsite at SBGS Jerry Snyder GuitarFest to attend the event and perform with the ensemble he leads, Guitar Ensemble Monterey. The ensemble includes nine students of Anthony DeMers Guitar School, including Toni Gibbs, volunteer Secretary of the Carmel Guitar Society Board.

Board Vice President Erica Glenn was also onsite for the event and had the privilege of working the Hill Guitar Co. exhibit with Kenny Hill. Many students and professionals of classical guitar and fellow guitar makers made their way to the exhibit. They shared the joy of celebrating the instrument and the awe of such fine musicians and creators in one place. The dedication and passion of those who have spent 40 and more years developing their playing, building, and collections is something to learn from. We should all be fortunate to have time with what we enjoy most. This event embodied the gift of classical guitar music.

Thanks to South Bay Guitar Society President Josh Friedman for his hard work, which made this event possible. We were fortunate to have opportunities at his event to inform attendees of the work Carmel Guitar Society is doing, as well as the upcoming concert season and guitar retreat. The more classical guitar appreciation opportunities, the better!

We look forward to meeting more friends of the instrument and connoisseurs of the music at upcoming events in 2025. We welcome all and invite you to join us!
