Join Carmel Guitar Society at SandBox Sand City for an unforgettable June evening with Hao Yang, Praised for her “brilliant performances full of color and character changes accompanied by an assured technique” (Cleveland Classical), Chinese guitarist Hao Yang is quickly establishing herself as one of the most compelling artists of her generation. A winner of the 2021 Astral Artists National Auditions, she has taken top prizes at prestigious international competitions, including the 54th Markneukirchen International Instrumental Competition, the Koblenz International Guitar Competition, the GFA International Youth Competition, and the Andrés Segovia International Guitar Competition.
A Curtis Institute of Music graduate, Yang studied under renowned guitarists David Starobin and Jason Vieaux. She earned her Master of Music degree from the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver as a recipient of the Newman Fellowship and is currently pursuing an Artist Diploma at the Yale School of Music.
Yang has performed in major venues including Carnegie Hall, the Kimmel Center, Miller Theatre at Columbia University, Princeton Sound Kitchen, and Subculture NYC. As a soloist, she has appeared with the Chursächsische Philharmonie in Germany and has been featured at international festivals in Cleveland, Panama, Beijing, and Tianjin.
Equally passionate about chamber music, Yang made her Carnegie Hall debut premiering Talking Guitars by Paul Lansky and has recorded chamber works by Lansky and Poul Ruders for the Grammy-winning Bridge Records label. She has performed with the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society and appeared at the Concordia Chamber Music Festival.
